The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Keck School of Medicine, located in the Health Science Campus, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate serves as a research trainee under the guidance of the Principal Investigator for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies.
The DePaolo laboratory applies the tools of immunology, genetics, molecular biology and systems biology to study the role of the microbiota and innate immunity in the pathophysiology of mucosal diseases. The ideal applicant will be a creative, ‘out of the box’ thinker, highly self-motivated, and have a genuine love of science. The DePaolo lab is a fun place to work, but the applicant must be hard working, willing to mentor students, have experience with in vivo mouse models and at least one first author publication in a respected journal.
Temporary, fixed-term; one year and renewable on the recommendation of the faculty mentor and at the discretion of the dean. May be renewed up to a maximum of five years.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Independently undertake research in the relevant discipline area using the appropriate methods and/or techniques.
Produce research reports and/or publications as required by the funding body or for dissemination to the wider academic community.
Collaborate with research colleagues and support staff internally as appropriate to the research and to actively develop appropriate external contacts and networks relevant to the project and to future funding opportunities.
Provide guidance and support to any students associated with the project.
Attend, contribute, and where necessary lead relevant meetings.
Ensure that responsibilities identified within internal processes such as Health and Safety guidelines etc. are robustly met by all research team members.
Take responsibility for planning and developing research methods and techniques within the framework of the research program.
Contribute to relevant teaching activities within the department.
Undertake any other duties relevant to the program of research.
