A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION (Job ID: 14477) is available immediately for projects involving translational research to develop a novel allele-specific RNA in situ hybridization (AS-RNA-ISH) technology as well as the mechanistic studies for ASE phenomenons. Differential allele-specific expression (DASE) has been well described with the epigenetic phenomena of genomic imprinting and random monoallelic expression (RME). Recent studies from us and other groups have demonstrated that DASE is also relatively common among non-imprinted autosomal genes. Results from our previous studies have shown that DASE was associated with an increased risk of developing cancer. As multiple genetic and epigenetic factors can contribute to DASE, DASE is a functional index for cis-acting regulatory variants and pathogenic mutations. These findings clearly support that DASE in cancer-associated genes could serve as a novel class of clinical biomarkers for cancer risk assessment, early detection, and treatment. We expect that this new AS-RNA-ISH technology will have broad impact in cancer-relevant applications. This project is recently funded by a grant from the NCI Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) program. The IMAT program was established to support the development of the next-generation analytical methodologies and tools that can potentially revolutionize current research and be commercialized in the near future.
