Salary range: starting at £31,342 rising to £37,394 per annum. It is normal to appoint at the first point of the salary scale.
Within the Translational Drug Discovery Group at the University of Sussex, we are seeking an experienced ion channel pharmacologist with proven electrophysiology and drug discovery expertise. This opportunity is available following a multi-million pound award by the Wellcome Trust Seeding Drug Discovery Initiative scheme to discover novel potentiators of the AMPA receptor which will enter clinical investigation.
An active practical scientist, you will contribute to the running of an in vitro laboratory with core capabilities in patch clamp (manual and automated) electrophysiology. The lab employs heterologous and primary cell systems to identify novel ion channel modulators and define their mechanism of action at the biophysical and molecular level. Additional responsibilities may include supervision of less experienced group members and students alongside regular interactions with researchers across scientific disciplines and research groups.
To support our continued growth we seek to appoint an individual who will make a significant contribution to our current and future ion channel drug discovery efforts. An inquisitive mind, strong practical skills and the ability to make individual contributions in a team setting are essential.
