Position Summary:

This position is responsible to direct the coordination of technical and administrative support activities including installation, repair, preventative maintenance, training and engineering change upgrades with complex products such as high throughput sequencing, genotyping and gene expression systems. Ensures World-Class service is provided to Illumina’s customers by minimizing instrument down time, investigating complaints, and providing scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and training, adequate records and systems are maintained. You will set goals for the team, provide feedback, and facilitate communication between Illumina and our install base.

Main Responsibilities:

• Manage the hiring, development, retention, and performance management of direct reports
• Assist the field and in-house teams to plan and organize activities to ensure efficient and effective service and support is provided to customers
• Ensure key performance metrics, including installation completion time, issue resolution time, and departmental efficiency, are met or exceeded
• Monitor and manage key account relationships and collaborate with sales and marketing to increase business from the existing customer base in assigned region by ensuring customers are both satisfied and are making optimal use of their Illumina systems
• Contribute to the development of commercial infrastructure, processes, and systems to increase the quality and efficiency of support to Illumina customers in region
• Develop and implement strategies to increase service contract sales
• Provide regional reports on customer satisfaction metrics and feedback, and develop and implement strategies to improve them
• Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the Field Applications and Engineering Supervisors and Tech Support for the region and provide them with technical leadership and guidance

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Talent Acquisition activities which include identifying needs of the department, justification for budget to fill positions, coordinating with HR to market the position, review resumes, conduct interviews and identify and recommend a candidate as the potential hire, and employee orientation to the department and company
• Talent Development activities which include developing training plans with employees to ensure they have the necessary expertise to successfully perform their jobs, provide ongoing guidance to employees, and career counseling to help employees develop and advance in their careers
• Job Role Definition ensures that job descriptions accurately record the primary responsibilities, qualifications and terms for each job role in their group
• Performance Management activities include setting performance standards, ensuring employees have appropriate and realistic job goals, providing ongoing feedback about employees’ performance, conducting performance appraisals, including assessing how the employees have performed and how they can improve their performance, developing performance improvement plans if employees’ performance is not adequate and providing rewards for employee accomplishments
• At higher levels of management, establishing and distributing budgets among departments is required
• Ensure employees follow all applicable company policies and procedures


All About You

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of related industry experience in biotechnology with confocal laser scanners, liquid handling robotics, or related technology
• At least 2 years of management experience in a commercial role
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage field employees
• At least 3 years of experience providing after sales support to customers in the life science industry
• Prior experience supporting clinical and/or healthcare accounts is highly desirable
• Strong customer centric nature with a proactive approach
• Experience establishing and managing best practice field service methodologies required to lead a world class service organization
• Highly motivated and successful leader who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment
• Excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
• A team oriented approach to the work environment
• Attention to detail and analytical problem solving with strong decision making skills.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills

Educational:

• Masters of Science/Engineering, PhD preferred
• Graduate degree and formal management training is ideal.
