Position:
Post Doctoral Position in Cell Death and Metabolism
Job Description:
A post doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nika Danial, Ph.D of the Department of Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to dissect key molecular mechanisms underlying the cross talk between cellular survival and metabolism. This laboratory has distinct scientific expertise in the role of BCL-2 family proteins in normal mitochondrial physiology and in apoptosis. The broad aims of this project are to identify and dissect energy and nutrient sensing pathways, including metabolic checkpoints that converge on BCL-2 family proteins to control cellular survival as well as bioenergetics. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach that draws on mouse genetics, mitochondrial metabolism, shRNA library screens, chemical biology and proteomics. The research goals designed for this position have implications for multiple diseases, including, cancer, neurodegeneration and diabetes.
This position is for highly motivated candidates who thrive on intellectual challenges and have a strong desire to expand their skillscope. The minimum requirement for this position is a PhD and/or MD degree. A strong background in biochemistry, cell biology or molecular biology and familiarity with techniques such as RNA interference, imaging and FACS analysis are preferred.
Primary research activities envisioned for this position include examination of changes in cellular metabolic profile in loss- and gain-of-function models of BCL-2 family members, including changes in cellular ATP regenerating systems and oxidative capacity. This may also include identification of novel interaction partners and non-apoptotic functions for BCL-2 proteins.
