A bioartificial Brain with an artificial body : training a cultured tissue to support the purposivebehavior of an artificial body (supported by European Marie Curie training network: Neurovers-it).

A post-doctoral position is available for 2 years, starting September 2007 at INSERM U 862. The project concerns the training of a cultured neural network through Micro-Electrode Arrays to control the movements of a mobile robot (Kephera). A learning algorithm will be chronically applied to a cultured network to correlates sensory information coming from the robot's sensors to its motor commands (actuators) to control the robot's behavior (movements towards a light source).
This work will be done in partnership with several European research teams, both academic and industrial (neuroscience, biotechnology, micro-electronic, robotic and telecommunications). Periodic exchanges (scientific meetings and technical formations) are included in this program. A strong ability to handle multidisciplinary research is necessary.
Expertise in computational Neuroscience, Signal Processing and Electrophysiology are required. Knowledge in primary cell culture will be positively considered.
