It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Beatson Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies. A new research facility, due for completion this year will allow significant expansion of the Institute over the next few years.

Post 1- Studies on autophagy and programmed cell death.

The Tumour Cell Death Laboratory at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research is seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher to study the role of autophagy in the regulation of tumour cell death. This position which is funded by Cancer Research UK, is offered initially for three years with the possibility, if successful, of a further two. The Tumour Cell Death Laboratory is interested in factors that regulate autophagy and integrate with apoptotic pathways to determine cell fate (Crighton et al. (2006) Cell 126:121-, Crighton et al. (2007) Autophagy 3:72-, Crighton et al. (2007) Cell Death Differ. 14:1071-). We have identified a number of novel factors that control autophagy and the successful candidate will study the molecular basis behind how one or more of these factors regulate autophagy and how this contributes to cell death in vitro and in vivo. Studies will involve transgenic/knockout models, siRNA studies, microscopy and mutational and biochemical analysis of protein function. Experience of working with mouse models is an advantage, but not essential.
