The Central Institute for Mental Health, Mannheim, Department of GeneticEpidemiology, Ru-precht-Karls-University Heidelberg (Prof. Dr. MarcellaRietschel), invites applications for a postdoctoral position to conductgenotype-phenotype studies in major psychiatric phenotypes (majordepression, manic-depressive illness, schizophrenia, addiction,borderline personality disorders, ADHD) within the framework oflarge-scale national and in-ternational collaborations.
This is a full-time two year appointment with the possibility ofextension upon review. The genotype-phenotype correlation analyses willbe performed on data collections totalling more than 30,000 individuals(patient and control samples) as well as several large epidemiologicalcohorts of up to 20,000 individuals from the general population. Thepatient samples have been characterized for more than 2,000 phenotypicitems. A large proportion of the patient and control samples either hasbeen, or is in the process of being, studied on a genome-wide basis.Advanced phenotyping (neuropsychology, brain imaging) is available forselected sam-ples.
The successful applicant will take a lead position in the establishmentof a large phenotypic database resource and in systematicgenotype-phenotype analyses (reverse phenotyping) using multivariateregression and clustering algorithms. The successful applicant will workwith a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists,geneticists, molecular biologists and mathematicians. We seek a highlymotivated and dedicated postdoctoral researcher (physician,psychologist, or epidemiologist) with previous experience of work intopsychiatric pheno-types, genetics, bioinformatics or statisticalgenetics. He/she should have experience of work-ing in a collaborativeenvironment and should have advanced skills in statistics, scientificcomputing, or computer programming. Knowledge of the German language isnot mandatory but would be an advantage. A profound knowledge of theEnglish language (spoken and written) and advanced writing skills are expected.
