Description
Member States of EMBL (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) are advised that applications are being sought for the following position at EMBL Heidelberg
The incumbent’s work will concentrate on various signaling processes and involve studies on model organisms such as yeast and cell culture. The project aims to understand where signaling molecules become activated, how active forms of kinases distribute across the cells and how this contributes to the signaling level and specificity of signaling processes.
The project involves the development and application of advanced microscopic techniques, such as fluorescence (cross)-correlation spectroscopy (FCS, FCCS), fluorescence lifetime microscopy (FLIM) and live cell imaging. Work will be conducted in a collaboration with 2 EMBL groups and facilities from the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit of EMBL Heidelberg.
Qualifications and experience: We are looking for a Postdoctoral candidate to develop and apply new microscopic technologies in order to study protein dynamics and protein complex formation in living cell.
The profile corresponding to our search criteria holds a PhD in the fields of physics or engineering with some knowledge of, and interest in, biology. The successful candidate should have excellent practical skills, experience in the development of optical systems and a profound programming knowledge. Experience in biological research, including wet lab work, cell imaging or molecular biology would be an advantage. EMBL provides a scientific environment that supports advanced biological work, e.g. through leading facilities for microscopy and technology development. EMBL offers an international and highly interactive environment and supports all postdoctoral needs at this critical career stage through a postdoctoral program.
Contract: An initial contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation.
Please note that EMBL does not return CVs or attached documents to applicants.
