Institution:
University of Southampton
Position:
Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Poplar Genomics and Genetics
Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a large interdisciplinary team investigating the use of poplar as a bioenergy crop, participating in two funded projects ‘A whole systems approach to analyzing bioenergy demand and supply: mobilizing the long-term potential of bioenergy’ and the ‘UKERC Bioenergy theme’. Using new and emerging functional genomics and other high through-put technologies you will work alongside PhD students identifying traits and their underlying genes determining yield and adaptation to the changing environment. You join a project up and running with ability to produce good outputs.
Educated to degree level and with a PhD in a relevant subject, you will be able to demonstrate skills in plant molecular biology, genomics and genetics, and be highly computer literate. Expertise in microarray technology, QTL mapping and bioinformatics of Populus would be extremely valuable, as would the ability to handle large datasets.
