Position:

A post-doctoral researcher with a background in Genetics, Genomics or Molecular Biology to investigate mechanisms of mutation and recombination in mammalian genomes.

Deadline:

17th August 2007.

Salary:

£26,650 to £33,400 dependent on experience

Job Description:

The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute leads the world in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.

Genome Dynamics and Evolution

Now is an extremely exciting time for the study of the causes and consequences of genetic variation. The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) is a world leader in mammalian genomics and genome informatics. The Genome Dynamics and Evolution group, led by Matthew Hurles, investigates mechanisms generating structural and sequence variation in human and mouse genomes. We use a combination of novel experimental protocols (Turner et al., Nature Methods 3:439-445 (2006)), together with large-scale experimental data generation, on a variety of platforms, with sophisticated data analyses (Redon et al., Nature, 444:444-454 (2006)). Our multi-disciplinary group comprises laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians and statisticians.

Post-Doctoral Fellow Ref 1373

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated post-doctoral researcher with a background in Genetics, Genomics or Molecular Biology to investigate mechanisms of mutation and recombination in mammalian genomes. Candidates may have a proven track record or demonstrated exceptional potential during a recently-completed PhD. Experience in assaying mutation or recombination and/or in developing and implementing novel experimental techniques would be an advantage. This post would suit applicants interested in working with the most up-to-date genomic technologies, including the latest generation of DNA sequencing platforms, and those wanting to develop their analytical and bioinformatics skills in a supportive environment.

This is a 3 year fixed-term contract. Salary range £26,650 to £33,400 per annum dependant upon experience. Benefits include 25 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme, optional private healthcare (on successful completion of a qualifying period), permanent disability insurance, life assurance, childcare voucher scheme, campus bus services from Cambridge and Saffron Walden, car-share scheme, on-site restaurant, café and gym.
