A postdoctoral fellow in the Brain Architecture Project

Job Description:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow in the Brain Architecture Project, a multi-institutional collaboration based at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and funded by the WM Keck Foundation. PI: Partha Mitra (CSHL); co-PIs: Larry Swanson (USC), John Doyle (Caltech), Hans Breiter (MGH).

Despite the classical origins of the study of human neuroanatomy, the architecture of the human brain, in terms of its connectivity patterns and functional subsystems, remains incompletely characterized. Under the leadership of four experts in relevant research areas including neuroanatomy, brain imaging, theoretical engineering and neuroscience, the Brain Architecture project aims to assemble a comprehensive knowledgebase of human neuroanatomical information, along with analytical and visualization tools for specific user groups. This project is expected to form the seed of a larger effort to comprehensively map the functional architecture of the human brain.

This postdoctoral fellow will undertake scholarly research of the extant literature and integrate the information into the Brain Architecture Project database. She/he will additionally take part in the design and deployment of web and software tools designed to connect the developing knowledgebase with the neurological and neuropsychiatric communities.

Candidates should have a PhD or MD with extensive training in human neuroanatomy. Additional training in computer science, database systems, knowledge engineering, or library science would be beneficial. The position may also provide opportunities to take part in experimental and/or computational studies in neuroanatomy depending on candidate interests.
