Postdoctoral, undergraduate (Ph.D. student) and technician positions focuse on understanding the mechanisms of beta-cell apoptosis in pancreatic islets and the decreased beta cell mass.

Job Description:

Postdoctoral, undergraduate (Ph.D. student) and technician positions are available in new diabetes research lab. Our group focuses on understanding the mechanisms of beta-cell apoptosis in pancreatic islets and the decreased beta cell mass. We found pro-inflammatory cytokines involved in the progression of beta cell destruction in type two diabetes (see PNAS June 11, 2002, 99, 8236-8241, PNAS May 25, 2004, 101, 8138-8143, J. Clin. Invest.2002, 110:851-860). Now, we will investigate targets to switch beta cell from apoptosis into proliferation. The project will involve cell culture techniques, protein and RNA isolation, immunocytochemistry, molecular cloning as well as islet isolation from transgenic mice and in vivo mouse experiments.

Postdoctoral applicants should have successfully finished their Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields, and ideally should have worked on pancreatic islets before.
The position is open from February 2008.
