Industrial Postdoctoral Fellow - Diabetic Retinopathy

You will be responsible for conceptualization and implementation of preclinical diabetic retinopathy-related research projects contributing towards company research and development objectives and strategies. This will involve applying a variety of complex research approaches and:

-developing/conducting basic scientific research in the application of new ideas and techniques related to new drug technologies and clinical applications

-conducting special analyses and carrying out research tasks requiring accuracy in scientific experimental techniques, calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed testing analyses, research protocols or computation methods

-identifying experimental methodologies, devising theories, conducting tests, reaching conclusions and recommending solutions to guide other research and development work

-preparing reports and scientific papers on assigned research projects for internal/external use

-giving presentations to project and research staff and scientific/academic audiences

-providing direction to one or more technicians or co-op students

-serving as a consultant in area of assigned research

-keeping abreast of current scientific principles and theories in research focus areas

-participating in the development of patent applications and publishing articles describing research findings in peer-reviewed professional journals.

Your PhD in a Biological or Pharmaceutical Science is further strengthened by at least 2 years' productive research experience in biology or pharmaceutical science fields. Applicants who do not have 2 years' experience, but whose PhD research has focused on either diabetic vasculopathies or nephropathy, may also be considered.

You also have:

-hands-on experience with contemporary molecular biology techniques

-knowledge of statistical analysis and Microsoft Office

-proven supervisory, communication, organizational and problem-solving abilities

-the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team and manage multiple projects.

Expertise with ocular physiology/pathology, including hands-on in vivo diabetic retinopathies or ocular vasculopathies experience is strongly preferred. Previous pharmaceutical industry experience would be an asset. Eligibility for an NSERC Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship is required. Current Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident status in Canada is required in order to apply for NSERC funding.
