Background:

SlidePath is a rapidly expanding bioinformatics company based in INVENT (Dublin City University, Ireland) serving the information organisation and management needs of many of Europes top researchers.

SlidePath is an industrial partner in the Target Breast Consortium and is collaborating with the academic partner Lund University, Sweden. The position being offered by SlidePath will involve a transfer of the research fellow from SlidePath to Lund University for a 12 month period.

Project Title:

The Target Breast programme aims to contribute to the identification of novel marker systems for predicting the progression and therapeutic response of human breast tumours, as well as the identification of new pathways for preventing disease progression and treatment resistance.

SlidePath have developed expertise in the provision of web-enabled database driven data management and analysis tools for life scientists, with particular emphasis on the provision of automated TMA workflow management tools.

Lund University have developed expertise in the construction and analysis of TMAs for DNA/RNA analysis via in situ hybridisation approaches, protein expression analysis via immunohistochemistry, thereby facilitating simultaneous visualisation of molecular targets in hundreds of tissue specimens at the DNA, RNA or protein level.

The aim of SlidePath and Lund University's interaction is to implement an automated high throughput TMA biomarker discovery and validation workflow.

Your responsibilities:

● Test potential gene products detected in screening processes by another consortium member on existing tissue microarrays with available tamoxifen response data.
● Use of SlidePaths Digital Slidebox and TMA functionality to produce high quality assessments of these antigens.
● Development of an automated high throughput process.
● Maintain database of scanned images and clinical data to form the bases for further manual as well as automatic analyses.
● Test automatic analysis of tissue microarrays on defined sets of antibodies where manual evaluation has been performed.
● Focus on a novel tissue microarray consisting of 500 lobular breast cancer samples and construct a high quality data base. Analyse several tumor biological important gene products in this array using manual and automatic detection.

Your profile:

You must be a self-motivated individual who can work using your own initiative. You will need to be innovative and be able to provide input into development and improvement of existing software and work-flows. You should have good communication skills and will be expected to produce and present regular status reports demonstrating skills you have shared and developed as well as deliverables you have achieved. You must be fluent in English. You must be a team player willing to integrate quickly into an existing research group.

Practical Skills should include experience of working with cell culture and knowledge of basic tumour biology. Bio-informatics experience and good computer skills are also required.

Position Details:

Experience: Experienced Researcher (4 - 10 years experience),Experienced researchers are defined as i) researchers having at least 4 years of research experience (full-time equivalent) since gaining a university diploma giving them access to doctoral studies (the degree must entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without having to acquire any further qualifications), in the country in which the degree/diploma was obtained or ii) researchers already in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it.
