Base 4 is a fast-growing scientific startup company developing high-speed single molecule detection platforms for use in the biomedical industry. Founded in 2007, our focus is on the optimisation and rapid commercialisation of devices for DNA sequencing, point-of-care diagnostics and genetic analysis, along with novel approaches to sample preparation, data handling and bioinformatics.

Working in collaboration with Cambridge University, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and The Genome Analysis Centre, we are quickly realising world-leading technologies with the potential for significant impact across the medical and life science industries.

Due to our continuing expansion we are seeking highly motivated, team orientated Software Engineers to develop hardware control and automation systems as well as to implement data analysis and signal processing algorithms.

Creative thinking coupled with intellectual curiosity and a desire to tackle substantial problems is also essential. A flexible attitude is key, so be prepared and willing to ‘roll up your sleeves and wear several different hats when required!

Educated to Post doc/Masters/Degree level in Software Engineering or a related discipline, you will have extensive experience in multithreaded C#/.NET , as well as knowledge of C/C++, ideally through commercial application development. Experience of code optimisation for high-speed data acquisition/processing is necessary and hardware control, particularly device driver development would be an asset. Knowledge in FPGA /GPU programming would be advantageous. A strong scientific background is essential and previous commercial experience would be a distinct advantage.
