Description
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a world leader in science and engineering research, with 11 Nobel Prize recipients over the past 75 years, and 59 present members of the National Academy of Sciences. LBNL conducts unclassified research across a wide range of scientific disciplines and hosts four national user facilities. The Life Sciences Division at LBNL applies expertise in computation, bioinformatics, cutting-edge imaging technologies and structural cell biology to further understand the complexity of biological systems. The mission of the Radiation Biosciences department within the Life Sciences Division is to conduct basic and applied research into the mechanisms of radiation susceptibility to tissue damage, genomic instability, and cancer risks and to identify molecular strategies to enhance cancer therapy through integrative biology, multi-scale imaging, and bioinformatics.
The post doc will perform research that utilizes genomic technologies and bioinformatics approaches to characterize gene-expression response profiles after exposures of cells and animal tissues to ionizing radiation and a variety of cancer drugs. This is done to identify: response pathways, co-regulatory determinants of genomic damage susceptibility, and specific pathways and gene inhibitors. The post doc will also work on a variety of projects that focus on finding molecular mechanisms, pathways, and gene targets that can be used to modulate radiation response in humans and improve the chemotherapeutic responses.
Note: This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
Qualifications:
● At least two years experience in research involving genomic structure, computational genomic analyses, and bioinformatics tools
● Experience in analyzing data from genome-scaling expression technologies (gene-transcript and/or proteomic cellular analyses methods)
● Knowledge of biostatistics and genomic biology
● Experience in culture of human cells
● Experience in Biostatistics and Bioengineering
● Experience in genome sciences and sequence analyses
● Recent Ph.D. degree (within 2-3 years) in Computational Biology, Biophysics, or related field
