Description

Thomas Jefferson University Postdoctoral position available immediatelyto participate in a new, NIH-funded project at the interface of systemsbiology and the neurobiology of hypertension as part of the NIH HeartLung Blood Institute's "NHLBI Exploratory Program in SystemsBiology" http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HL-06-004.html.

The project will investigate signaling pathways and transcriptionalmechanisms regulating neuronal adaptive mechanisms involved indysfunction of cardio-respiratory regulation. The project uses acombination of in vivo, in vitro, and in silico methodologies. The idealcandidate will be interested in both systems biology and neurobiologyand should have previous training in at least one of these areas, andwill need to use molecular biology methods and work with the rat as ananimal model. This position requires a significant amount of teamworkand excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

The position provides the opportunity to receive interdisciplinarytraining in a highly stimulating and diverse environment and to work ina uniquely collaborative environment. The work site will be the lab ofJim Schwaber at Thomas Jefferson University in Center City Philadelphia,in collaboration with Drs. Boris Kholodenko, Raj Vadigepalli, TundeOgunnaike, Bob Rogers, Jan Hoek and Greg Gonye.

The Daniel Baugh Institute (DBI) focuses on the development of mammaliansystems biology www.dbi.tju.edu by combining experimental studies ofbiomedical problems with matched computational and mathematical analysesand approaches. The computational aspect of the program is concernedwith studying neuronal adaptive mechanisms using multiscale simulationsinvolving gene regulatory networks, intracellular signaling networks andmembrane biophysics using hybrid deterministic/stochastic models.

Benefits and salary commensurate with experience and include healthinsurance. The complexity of the relevant technology requires at least atwo year initial commitment.
