Job Description

Postdoctoral fellowship in the quantitative and super-resolution imaging of natural killer cell immunobiology.

A post-doctoral fellowship is available in the laboratory of Jordan Orange MD, PhD within the newly created Center for Human Immunobiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital to study the cell biology of human natural killer cells. We have focused on cytoskeletal and signaling requirements for the mobilization and directed secretion of NK cell lytic granules at the immunological synapse to enable cytotoxicity.

We have relied heavily on highly quantitative imaging of live and fixed cells and have utilized a variety of innovative approaches to address our questions, including total-internal reflection fluorescence and stimulated-emission depletion super-resolution microscopy. Additionally we have gained insights from human genetic defects that impact NK cells providing a host defense and in vivo physiologic context. The work promises to be challenging, but presents an opportunity to gain an understanding of the molecular events involved in intercellular recognition, intracellular organization and resultant function.

Trainees will benefit from an unusual environment within the Center for Human Immunobiology, which includes a state-of-the art imaging facility containing stimulated-emission depletion super-resolution, total- internal reflection fluorescence and spinning disc confocal microscopes. There is also superb access to flow cytometry, imaging cytometry and cell sorting within the Center.

PhDs with a background in any of the following disciplines:
1) cell biology, with emphasis on intracellular transport, ultrastructure or the cytoskeleton;
2) biochemistry, with an emphasis on inhibitory or activation-induced cell signaling;
3)quantitative imaging; or
4) Immunology, with an emphasis on intercellular interactions or cell-induced signaling.
