A postdoctoral position is available at Columbia University in theemerging field of nanobiotechnology, jointly advised by Prof. MichaelSheetz, Department of Biology, and Prof. James Hone, Department ofMechanical Engineering. This interdisciplinary and highly-collaborativeproject focuses on the study of polyvalent interactions in largecytoskeletal proteins using functionalized nanoscale arrays.
Applicants should have had exposure to the areas of protein biology,interfacial phenomena and chemistry, and fluorescence microscopy. Theability to work in an interdisciplinary team is expected. The individualwill initiate and conduct single molecule protein binding studies oflarge focal adhesion proteins on functionalized nanoscale arrays, aswell as to develop and characterize new surface functionalizationchemistries these metallic nanoarrays.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D in chemistry,molecular biology, materials science and engineering, or some relatedfield. Some exposure/experience in surface chemistry andfunctionalization, cell culture and protein purification, and/or singlemolecule fluorescence microscopy is preferred.
