Description
We have two openings for individuals wishing to join a multidisciplinaryproject in the area of metabolomics. The overall aims of the project areto develop LC/MS-based methods for global eicosanoid profiling ofbronchial alveolar lavage fluid (BALF), plasma, atherosclerotic plaquesand other tissues. Developed methods will be employed in translationalresearch to probe a range of inflammatory diseases, including chronicobstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and atherosclerosis. Thiswork will involve close collaboration with clinical researchers at theKarolinska University Hospital. Potential project expansion dependingupon the interests of the applicant includes development ofomics-integrating bioinformatics tools and pathway analysis incollaboration with the Kyoto University Bioinformatics Center(http://www.genome.jp/kegg/). Specific interests include development ofrelational database structures for use in systems biology approaches toinflammatory diseases. World class expertise and facilities in theseresearch areas exist at the Karolinska Institutet, including a ThermoLCQ Deca XP MAX ion-trap mass spectrometer equipped with an electrosprayion source, Thermo Surveyor LC system and 2 Agilent GC/MS systems. Thedepartment is also home to the Protein Analysis Center, which possess arange of advanced analytical instrumentation (http://www.mbb.ki.se/pac/index.html).
You should have a Ph.D. in mass spectrometry and/or bioanalyticalchemistry, with experience in small molecule mass spectrometry andbiological sample preparation techniques. Prior experience in lipidanalysis and bioinformatics is strongly preferred.
This position is initially available for 12 months, with potentialrenewal for an additional 12 months.
Start date: Funding is available from February 2008, but the start dateis negotiable.
Salary: Salary is stipend-based, includes health insurance, and isnegotiable depending upon applicant experience.
