Summary
Division of Biomedical Informatics has two postdoctoral researchassociate positions available for immediate appointment. The positionsare part of a bioinformatics research program under the direction ofPeter Li, Ph.D. The near-term goal of this program is to address thefundamental aspects of mining “omics” data and their related biologicalmodels.
This involves the development of better analytic approaches as well asbetter data abstraction and integration techniques. With improvedmethodologies, the program will also tackle the next level challenges ofknowledge representation and deployment. The long-term goal is to focuson translational and individualized medicine through these novelbioinformatics and systems approaches. These efforts are core to thedevelopment of an integrated scientific and clinical environment at theMayo Clinic. As junior faculty in the program, the research associatewill be expected to assume important roles in the program: guiding otherteam members to successful research milestones, establishingcollaboration with basic science and clinical researchers, mentoringpostdoctoral fellows and students, and developing new directions forfuture research.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in bioinformatics/computationalbiology or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants withsignificant research experience in bioinformatics and demonstratedresearch aptitude. The diversity of subject matter will require acreative mind, deploying imaginative strategies, with dedication tosolving complex and challenging problems. Applicants should be highlymotivated and flexible, with excellent communication skills, and workwell with people.
