Description
The Heinrich-Pette-Institute is seeking for two exceptional Postdocs andone Technician with strong experience in molecular-/cell biology orvirology to work in the Department of Cell Biology and Virology, headedby Prof. Joachim Hauber.
Description of the projects:
The recent work of the department focussed on the development of noveland advanced therapies for the treatment of HIV-1 and/or HTLV-Iinfection. A therapeutic strategy uses low-molecular-weight inhibitorsthat interfere with retroviral RNA processing and allow the inhibitionof otherwise multidrug-resistant (HAART-resistant) viruses (see: Hauberet al. 2005 J. Clin. Invest. 115:76-85; Schäfer et al. 2006 J. Infect.Dis. 194:740-750).
Another strategy directly targets the integrated HIV-1 proviral DNA byusing LTR-specific recombinase (see: Sarkar et al. 2007 Science316:1912-1915). This approach may ultimately provide a means to cure HIV infections.
All positions are embedded in project groups that consist of colleaguesin the department as well as various external partners fromcollaborating basic research institutes and hospitals. The candidateswill apply sophisticated molecular, cellular and virological approachesto further develop the above-mentioned novel and highly advanced therapies.
Requirements:
The successful Postdoc-candidate should have a strong technologicalbackground in molecular-/cell biology or virology. She/He will work withthe most advanced technologies in virus-infected mammalian tissueculture cells.
The work will have a strong medical and pharmaceutical relevance, givingthe candidate broad career perspectives.
The successful Technician (Medical or Biological Assistant) should haveexperience with mammalian cell culture techniques.
The contract will be made for initially one year with the perspective oftwo years of extension.
