Job description
The Department of Paediatrics is looking for a Postdoc for its teaminvestigating the use of cellular immunotherapy for treating bonetumours, in particular Ewing sarcomas. You will be responsible foridentifying the molecular interactions that play a role in the migrationof T and NK cell populations to the tumour site, specifically examiningthe role of immune escape mechanisms. Your work will involve preclinicalstudies and, possibly, mouse models, as well as the analysis of bonetumour patients participating in clinical studies. You will also helpsupervise two PhD students and work in close collaboration with theDepartment of Pathology. The research project is financed by the Qualityof Life Foundation.

Job requirements
We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in Medicine, Biology, orBiomedical Sciences and a specialisation in cellular or molecularimmunology. You should have an affinity for clinical research andexperience with working with laboratory animals is preferred. You areable to independently set up and carry out research and should be ableto supervise PhD students. Excellent communication and organisationalskills are essential for this position.

Organisation
At the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), we are continuallyseeking to improve the quality of healthcare. The LUMC aims forexcellence in patient care, research, teaching, training and continuingeducation. The sub-department Immunology, Hemato-Oncology, Bone MarrowTransplant and Auto Immune Diseases of the Willem-Alexander Departmentof Paediatrics not only treats children with bone tumours andhaematological malignancies, but also carries out allogeneic stem celltransplants in children. Over the past few years, various national andinternational clinical trials have been initiated in which immunotherapyhas been used in the treatment of malignancies and allogeneic stem celltransplants. Within the Department’s Immunology Laboratory, regulardiagnostic work is carried out alongside fundamental and clinicalresearch. The focus of the latter is on cellular immunotherapy for solidtumours and haematological malignancies, the role of Mesenchymal stemcells in allogeneic stem cell transplants, and virus-specific immunereconstitution following allogeneic stem cell transplantation. TheLaboratory comprises a team of six PhD students, four postdocs and anumber of research analysts. The research group covering immunotherapyin bone tumours is financially supported by the Dutch Cancer Foundation,The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development/TheNetherlands Organisation for Scientific Research and the EU.

What we offer
You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour week. Appointment is forfour years. Your salary will depend on your qualifications andexperience, with a maximum of € 3,638 gross per month based on a fulltime position (scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement forUniversity Hospitals).
