Description
The research at Neuronal Survival Unit, Lund University, Sweden(www.med.lu.se/expmed/nesu) is focused on pathogenetic mechanisms andpharmacological treatment in cell and animal models of Parkinson’s andHuntington’s diseases. We also study cell replacement therapy with stemcells in attempts to repair brains in animal models of Parkinson’s andHuntington’s diseases. The group’s mission is to understandneurodegenerative diseases and develop new therapies that are of benefitto patients and their caregivers.
1. Neuroprotection
This position is a part of a Nordic Center of Excellence –Neurodegeneration (see weblink above). The post doctoral project willfocus on studying the neuroprotective effects exerted by N-terminalfragments of mutant huntingtin so as to protect against neurological diseases.
The applicant should have a relevant background in neuroscience andneurodegenerative disease, preferably with an emphasis on cell cultureand protein chemistry. The start date should be as soon as possible. Theduration is 2 years. Application deadline March 31st 2008.
2. Stems
This postdoc position is a part of an international collaboration called“STEMS-Preclinical evaluation of Stem Cell Therapy in Stroke” financedby the EU. The project will focus on characterization of human adultstem cells and human embryonic stem cells for the purpose oftransplantation in stroke.
The applicant should have a relevant background in neuroscience or stemcell research, preferably with emphasis on methods such cell culture,immunocytochemistry, Western blotting and PCR. The start date should beas soon as possible. The duration is 2 years. Application deadline March31st 2008.
Requirements:
A PhD degree in neuroscience or closely related subject. All applicantsshould also be fluent in spoken and written English. Three references required.
