Description
The GKSS Research Centre is located in Geesthacht near Hamburg, Germany,with a further centre in Teltow near Berlin, and is a member of theHelmholtz Association of German Research Centres. With its approximately700 employees it undertakes, in collaboration with universities andindustry, research and development in the areas of coastal research,materials research, regenerative medicine, and structure research withneutrons and synchrotron radiation.
The Centre for Biomaterial Development of the GKSS Institute of PolymerResearch in Teltow / Berlin seeks for a 2-years fixed-term position inthe Biomimetic Materials group a
Postdoc – Code-No. PB 2
in organic/oligosaccharide chemistry.
You will be responsible for the synthesis of oligosaccharides,glycoconjugates, peptides, and mimics thereof, as well as the synthetictransformation of biopolymers in the course of biomaterial development.In this context, working closely together with internal and externalcooperation partners is crucial. Furthermore, you will activelyparticipate in the publication of the results, preparation of patents,and attracting further funding. The capability of the scientificco-supervision of the NMR facility is advantageous.
You have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with experience in oligosaccharidesynthesis or general carbohydrate chemistry and at least one of thefollowing fields: i) biopolymers, ii) peptide synthesis, or iii)analysis of biointeractions of small molecules, proteins or cells,ideally with NMR. This experience is documented by scientificpublications. You have a solid background in synthetic organic chemistry(including purification, synthesis planning, and characterization) andon the chemistry/biology interface. Knowledge of upscaling orcharacterization of surfaces and materials are an asset. You arespeaking English fluently.
