The Diabetes Research Institute invites applicationsfor a postdoctoral position to study the prevention and treatment ofdiabetes. This individual will work on a multidisciplinary projectresulting from a collaborative effort between the DRI and the recentlyestablished Dodson Interdisciplinary Immunotherapy Institute (E. Gilboa, Director).
The postdoctoral associate will focus on the targeting and selectiveelimination of activated T lymphocytes in pre-clinical murine models ofGVHD and autoimmunity using the NOD mouse model of autoimmune diabetesand allotransplantation rejection. Targeting and elimination of T cellswill be achieved using novel reagents based on aptamer-siRNA chmaeras.
This position offers the opportunity for professional development. Theperson hired is expected to attend DRI research meetings, seminars aswell as other UM seminars as necessary. The nature of the studiesperformed in the laboratory may require working after hours, weekendsand holidays.
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent. Thesuccessful candidate must demonstrate a track record of high enthusiasmand motivation, significant independence, and creative thinking.Experience in immunology is mandatory and previous use of small animalmodels is desirable. A dedicated work-ethic, a collegial attitude,organized and timely completion of assigned tasks and written periodicprogress reports are expected. An appropriate combination of relevanteducation, experience and/ or certifications will be considered.
