Description
One new Postdoctoral Position is available immediately to study thegenetics, cell biology, and molecular mechanisms of tube formation andbranching morphogenesis. The position will be in the Ghabrial lab, within the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at theUniversity of Pennsylvania.
We use the Drosophila tracheal (respiratory) system as a model tubularorgan, and have successfully carried out a large-scale forward geneticscreen to identify genes that are essential in tube formation andmorphogenesis. Analysis of the ~70 complementation groups identified inthe screen are a current priority in the lab. In addition, a new screenis being initiated with the intention of identifying genes that arespecifically required in tip cells (see Nature, 2007, 441: 746-9)—thecells that mediate the branching of new tubes from the epithelium.
