SCRIPPS GENOMIC MEDICINE
A Collaboration of Scripps Health and The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI)
Join a dynamic organization, Scripps Genomic Medicine, an initiative ofScripps Health in collaboration with The Scripps Research Institute. Ourorganization supports basic research and clinical programs focused onidentifying and characterizing genes that underlie susceptibility to disease.
Duties & Responsibilities: Two postdoctoral positions are currentlyavailable in the newly formed Scripps Genomic Medicine Group. Oneposition will focus on cohort sequencing studies of targeted intervalsin the human genome associated with cardiovascular, cancer, andneurologic diseases to gain insight into the allelic frequency spectrumand structure of DNA variation involved in disease. Primary duties forthis position include establishing novel sample and library preparationmethods for Next Generation Sequencing platforms and the scale up ofthese methods into high-throughput protocols. The second postdoctoralposition will focus on the functional annotation of genomic intervalsidentified as associated with human disease through whole genomeassociation studies. Primary duties for this position include designingand executing experiments to identify the biological mechanismsunderlying the association. The experimental designs will take intoaccount the functional landscape of the genomic interval of interest inconjunction with the biological processes of the specific disease. Wewill interact with leading experts at TSRI in all the various biological“Omic” disciplines: genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, structural proteomics, and glycomics.
Requirements: Individuals must be highly motivated with a Ph.D. inGenetics, Molecular Biology or other related field. Expertise in a broadrange of molecular-biological and biochemical techniques (cloning, sequencing, PCR, purification of DNA, RNA, proteins, etc.) is desirable.Proficiency in the use of currently existing bioinformatic programs andtools for human DNA sequence analysis, knowledge of public genomicdatabases, gene expression analysis, and association study analysis is aplus.
