Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Translational Research
The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) ComprehensiveBiomedical Research Centre at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS FoundationTrust (GSTFT) and King’s College London (KCL) is one of five newcomprehensive Biomedical Research Centres in the UK. King’s CollegeHospital NHS Foundation Trust is a formal strategic partner in theCentre. The Centre also has strategic alliances with Barts and TheLondon NHS Trust and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Centre has a strong focus on translational research, taking advancesin basic medical research out of the laboratory and into the clinicalsetting, forming a key part of the Department of Health’s new strategyfor research and development in the NHS.
The GSTFT/KCL Centre was awarded a total of £45m over five years’ tobuild on its excellence in translational research and to developtranslational research capacity through training and education. TheBiomedical Research Centre at GSTFT/KCL focuses on seven research themesencompassing Asthma and Allergy, Atherosclerosis, Cutaneous Medicine,Cancer, Immunity and Infection, Oral Health and Transplantation and hascross cutting disciplines encompassing Genetics, Paediatrics, ImagingSciences, Stem Cell Research, Cell and Molecular Biophysics, Age-relateddiseases and Health and Social Care Research.
We are now seeking to appoint up to ten Postdoctoral Research Fellows toprovide an opportunity for outstanding postdoctoral scientists todevelop a basic translational research programme within the BRC with theaim of consolidating research skills and making the transition to anindependent investigator. The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship schemeprovides up to three years’ salary funding with the aim of individualssecuring an externally funded research fellowship/career developmentaward at some point during the fellowship.
