Description
Analysis of transdifferentiation in vivo in C. elegans
The Jarriault lab is looking for a postdoc ! Our team is part of theCell and Developmental Department, at the IGBMC, in Strasbourg, France. This Research Institute (www.igbmc.fr) provides access tostate-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant research environment.
The focus of our lab is to elucidate the cellular interactions andmolecular mechanisms underlying transdifferentiation, the process bywhich a differentiated cell can change its identity. We havecharacterised a transdifferentiation event in C. elegans (Jarriault etal. PNAS 2008), have initiated genetic screens and identified genesaffecting various steps of this process. Our aims are to define how thecompetence to transdifferentiate is established, how thetransdifferentiation process is initiated and what the intermediate(dedifferentiated ?) cellular steps involved are. Understandingtransdifferentiation has important implications ranging from organregeneration to cancer, and the nematode C. elegans is an idealexperimental model allowing comprehensive screens at a single celllevel. We routinely use genetic, molecular and cellular techniques.
Qualification
The successful candidate should be highly motivated with a stronginterest in Developmental and Cellular Biology, and experienced in theuse of molecular biology and genetic techniques. Experience in workingwith C. elegans is a plus. Funding is available.
