Description
Several positions are available at Unifob AS, Bergen Center forComputational Sciences (BCCS) in connection with the project “eSysbio –an e-science environment for systems biology” (see below for positiondetails). The eSysBio-project is funded by the Research Council ofNorway, through the eVITA e-science program. The project will run from2007-2012 and will involve a team of researchers, postdoctoral fellows,PhD-students, programmers, and master students.
The main aim of the project is to develop a collaborative virtualworkspace for entering, analysing and accessing systems biology data.Users of the system will be researchers from multiple disciplines, suchas molecular biology/biomedicine, statistics and mathematics. Theworkspace will be implemented using a Service Oriented Architecture(SOA), where Web services and semantic technologies will play key roles. The project is divided into three work packages: 1) Development of thecollaborative virtual workspace; 2) Resource integration (SOA/Webservices/workflows) and semantic technology; and 3) User interface andclient software integration.
BCCS has approximately 50 employees counting more than 17 differentnationalities. The center operates the high performance computingfacilities of the University of Bergen, and has units withinhigh-performance computing (Parallab), bioinformatics (CBU), andmathematics (CMU), all involved in the eSysbio project.

Interestand/or experience in mathematical modelling and bioinformatics is a plus.
Research activities can include integration of bioinformatics data, datamodelling and data analysis. The candidate’s PhD should be in ComputerScience though we are also interested in candidates with doctoraldegrees in other fields (e.g., mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology)if they have extensive experience and proven abilities in programmingand software engineering.
We seek candidates interested in taking part in student and project supervision.
We expect enthusiasm and independence as well as the ability to work ina team environment. Good knowledge of English is required. Women inparticular are invited to apply.
