Description
The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.YAN CUI. The facultymentor for this position will be Dr.YAN CUI. A postdoctoral fellowposition in computational biology is available in Dr. Yan Cui’s lab atUniversity of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis, Tennessee, USA).Our research interests include predictive modeling of genetic networks,phenotypic effect of genetic variations, functional elements innon-coding DNA sequences and evolutionary theory (for details see ourwebpage at http://compbio.utmem.edu). The successful applicants willhave the opportunity to participate exciting research projects such as:(1) Sequencing the genome of a mouse strain (DBA/2) and identify all thegenetic differences between DBA/2 and the C57BL/6 strain (whose genomehas been sequenced), (2) Designing custom microarrays to study thedifferential gene expression across the BXD recombinant inbred strains(which were derived from the crossing of DBA/2 and C57BL/6), (3)Developing computational models to elucidate the causal pathways throughwhich genetic variations influence phenotypes and predict the effects ofgenetic/transcriptional variations/interventions on the phenotypes (e.g.individual differences in disease susceptibility and responses tomedications). The multidisciplinary research environment will providenumerous opportunities to collaborate with experimental biologists.
Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree, researchexperiences in computational biology/bioinformatics, and computerprogramming skills. Experience in gene network modeling, quantitativegenetics and/or genome sequence analysis/assembly is a plus.
Salary will be commensurate with the relevant experience.
