This position is ideallysuited for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest andbackground in developing the essential scientific, leadership andadministrative skills that will promote their advancement towards anacademic career in biomedical research. Dr. Hsu’s program in cancerbiology spans the entire clinical translational science spectrum of“bench-to-bedside.” Novel discoveries resulting from basic sciencestudies to understand molecular oncogenesis at the regulatory level areleveraged upon to develop animal models of disease, to develop potentialdiagnostic and prognostic tools, and to generate targeted therapeuticstrategies. A wide variety of traditional as well as high throughput“-omics” platforms and computational structural biology capabilities areemployed in the laboratory.

This post-doctoral research associate position has an anticipated startdate no later than January 1, 2008. As per University of Florida policy, the contract would be for one year with the possibility for continuousrenewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and grant funding availability.

Job description:

The major focus will be to investigate the regulation of members of thenovel TRIP-Br proto-oncogene family involved in promoting cell cycleprogression and cellular proliferation through co-regulation of theE2F/DP/pRB transcription complex and their role in human cancer. Thestudy approach will combine traditional methods in cell and molecularbiology, molecular genetics and the development of animal models ofdisease, high throughput methods including comprehensive gene expressionprofiling and ChIP assays, protein structural determinations to allowfor the screening and/or design of novel compounds that may serve asnovel investigational agents for the targeted therapy of human cancerand other proliferative lesions, and the determination of the diagnosticand prognostic value of TRIP-Br protein overexpression as detected byimmunostaining of tumor tissue microarrays in a wide variety ofimportant and highly prevalent tumors of epithelial origin incollaboration with the Moffitt Cancer Research Institute (Tampa, FL).

This is a post-graduate position in which the individual will beresponsible for developing and conducting independent projects underlimited supervision while providing mentorship and leadership to adynamic and young group of PhD students and clinical fellows.
