Optimising delivery of therapeutic siRNA into skin
Grade 6 (£23,449 – £24,877)
The overarching objective for this MRC funded project is to revolutionise the delivery of molecular therapeutics into skin. This will be achieved through the development of an innovative new tool for fast, painless, effective and reliable delivery of siRNA. The basis for this approach will involve a combination of ultrasonic stimulus and micro-needle array technologies with a [bio]chemically engineered microbubble delivery system. Validation will be undertaken with clinically relevant skin models. The project will be based in the renowned College of Life Sciences (rated best in Scotland and 4th in the UK in RAE 2008), however, there will be scope to participate with collaborative partnerships in both Japan and the USA. The biological and physical elements of the programme will be undertaken under the respective auspices of Professor Irwin McLean (http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/mm) and Dr Paul Campbell (www.cicass.net).
This person will provide technical support for the biological aspects of the research programme and to as lesser extent, the physics component. Applicants should have experience of molecular biology and/or biochemistry and/or cell culture systems and preferably some additional experience from outside biology. An ideal applicant would have a broad skill set and be a highly adaptable, pro-active individual capable of responding to complex technical challenges and prepared to tackle problems requiring multi-disciplinary technical solutions.
Funding for this post is available for up to 3 years.
