Director Early Product Development (Molecular Biology) £60-80k South AF/014704
A Director of Molecular Biology in the early development product phase is urgently required to provide strong technical leadership to the Early Product Development department, which is responsible for construction of vaccine candidates based on the companies platform technologies. These technologies are currently a vector based upon Salmonella typhi with stable, defined genetic attenuations, but this could expand in future.
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for molecular biology across all company vaccine projects.
• Lead the teams making constructs
• Provide Early Product Development resource in support of project management teams projects
• Prepare and manage budgets
• Maintain good working relationships with outsource partners and consultants
• Provide input and expertise to troubleshoot problems
• Provide technical support to and act as a key member of the Early Product Development Committee, a subcommittee of the Product Development Committee, which is responsible for identification, selection and prioritization of candidates based on the company’s platform technologies. This committee is chaired by the CSO.
• Ensure compliance with GLP as appropriate
• Support Business Development due diligence and proposal/grant writing activities
Skills and Experience
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell Biology or other related life science discipline.
• Laboratory experience in bacterial and/or viral molecular biology
• At least 5 years pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, in the area of vaccines or immunotherapeutics, primarily for infectious diseases, though oncology or autoimmune/allergy experience may also be helpful.
• A strategic thinker with excellent problem solving and decision making skills
This is a new permanent role that will have direct reports in the UK and Germany.
