Description

Apply a wide variety of –omics assay technologies to establish molecular characteristics of cancer tissues and cells under different conditions. Utilize these molecular characteristics to gain mechanistic insight leading to new targets and mechanisms for cancer therapy, new biomarkers for patient selection and response, and validation of targets. This position emphasizes cancer genetics expertise, but will integrate data from other omics approaches.

Primary Duties:

• Apply cancer genetic approaches within Target ID & Val group
• Acquire appropriate cancer cell and tissue samples, prep or generate extracts for analysis. This will include culturing various cancer cell lines under different treatment conditions, acquisition of tumor biopsies and in vivo models tissues via partnerships, LCM of samples to further dissect, prep of tissues/cells for in situ analyses
• Develop, validate, and apply various –omics assays, including genomic mutational analysis, genomic epigenetic analysis, transcriptional profiling, proteomics, phospho-proteomics, IHC, ISH. Partner with internal and external experts to support these activities
• Partnering with collaborators and computational biologists, mine internal and external databases to extract and integrate available, relevant –omics data
• Establish basal molecular profiles, then measure and evaluate changes in molecular profiles when cancer cells/tissues are perturbed/modulated by different stimuli, compound treatment, RNAi knock-down, combination treatments, and acquisition of resistance
• Partnering with computational biologists, conduct complex data analysis to decipher mechanism of action of perturbation/modulation leading to the generation of hypotheses for new targets and mechanisms for cancer therapy, integration of data from multiple approaches to generate target hypotheses
• Manage external Omics collaborations
• Contribute to strategy and tactics for Target ID & Val within Disease specialty group, and ensure technical interface across disease specialty groups
• Contribute to building a culture that embraces continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and disease biology expertise; take a proactive role in personal growth and scientific development

Qualifications:

Training & Education Preferred:
• PhD or MD/PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry (or a comparable biological science) with a cancer-related focus
• Deep knowledge of targets and pathways of importance to tumorigenesis and progression
• Expert in tissue and cell analysis, DNA and RNA assay technologies, protein immunoassay technologies
• Expert with data capture/analysis of large datasets
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of software tools to support data analysis tasks (e.g., SIGHTS, Spotfire, protocol development and registration).
• Have a good understanding of the future of the cancer field in general

Prior Experience Preferred:

• At least 5 years experience working primarily on cancer biology, preferably in one or more of the tumor types covered in this Disease Specialty group
• At least 5 years experience (post degree) in industry or academic lab focused on –omics technologies
• Extensive expertise in cancer genetics and epigenetics
• Demonstrated ability to supervise direct reports
• Hands on, extensive experience with at least one of the –omics technologies mentioned above, with clear conceptual understanding of additional –omics technologies
• Able to work in a team environment; good communication skills; able to present data at project team meetings
• Ideally, the candidate will have demonstrated skills and success in networking and identifying and managing partnerships/collaborations
