Description:
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the area of cancer biology. The position is within the laboratory of Dr. Meenhard Herlyn at the Wistar Institute and will be in close affiliation with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Candidates are sought to join a basic and translational research program focusing on squamous cell carcinomas of the upper aerodigestive tract, recently funded by an NCI P01 grant. This program aims to identify mechanisms of therapy resistance in these malignancies and develop novel approaches to targeting tumor cell subpopulations resistant to current chemotherapeutic agents. Our overall strategy is to define and target not only the drug-resistant tumor cell subpopulations themselves but also critical interactions with the stromal microenvironment that modulate their resistant phenotypes. Studies will rely upon our laboratory’s extensive experience in 3-dimensional in vitro cancer models and in vivo xenograft models, in addition to utilizing readily available patient-derived tumor specimens. Work will be performed under mentorship from Dr. Herlyn, and the position will be supported by Dr. Devraj Basu in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.
