An exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced Postdoctoral Researcher in the Infection and Immunity Theme at The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

An exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced Postdoctoral Researcher in the Infection and Immunity Theme at The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). SAHMRI is a state-of-the-art facility with excellent core facilities and services and is located in the Adelaide Central Business District, close to all the amenities of the city. Adelaide boasts a Mediterranean climate, beautiful beaches and is within an hour’s drive of world-class wine regions including the Barossa Valley.

The Lynn EMBL Australia Group uses experimental (e.g. infection models, gene and microRNA expression profiling, next-generation sequencing, genome-wide association studies) and advanced computational approaches (e.g. pathway and network biology approaches, InnateDB.com) to investigate and understand the complexity of the regulatory networks which control and shape our innate immune response. For more details see http://www.emblaustralia.org/Research/Lynn_Group.aspx

The postdoctoral researcher will have a leadership role in the lab and with the support of a technician will use a range of techniques to investigate the mammalian innate immune response to infection, including human genomics (and possibly proteomics); in vitro and in vivo infection models; and next-generation sequencing. Detailed studies will also be undertaken to validate the mechanisms revealed by the omics approaches (e.g. RNAi; miRNA mimics; mouse models). A highly competitive remuneration package and relocation assistance (if required) is available for this position.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced postdoctoral researcher with the following key attributes and skills:

PhD in Immunology/Genomics/Proteomics/Molecular Biology or closely related subject.
At least 3 years previous postdoctoral experience in a relevant area.
Strong publication record in high-impact international journals.
Experience with in vitro and/or in vivo infection models.
Experience in a range of molecular biology techniques e.g. DNA and RNA work; protein biochemistry; RNAi, microRNA mimics; RT-PCR; cloning; transfection; microbiology.
Experience in flow cytometry or haematology.
Experience in at least one “omics” field especially genomics; proteomics; metabolomics or epigenomics.
Cell culture experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build constructive working relationships.
Methodical with good attention to detail.
Proven capacity to work independently as well as part of a team, embracing cross-organisational collaboration.
A strong commitment to research excellence and innovation that translates into better health outcomes.
Other highly desirable skills/experience:

Experience with next-generation sequencing and Ilumina library preparation.
Experience in gene or microRNA expression profiling.
Knowledge of innate immunity pathways and signalling cascades.
Experience with network or systems biology approaches.
Bioinformatics experience and a willingness to undertake data analysis.
