The Biomedical Engineering and Optics Laboratory at the Center for Molecular Imaging at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, seeks a talented and motivated post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in Biomedical Optics and Biomedical Engineering. Our mission is to solve important clinical problems by applying first principles from physics and engineering. The major focus of our laboratory is the development of imaging technologies to provide objective, quantitative guidance during surgery and screening procedures.

To achieve this goal, we focus on the following two major goals:

First, we develop novel imaging technology (such as fluorescence or oxygenation imaging) to improve disease detection where it is needed most.
Second, we translate these developments from the bench, through pre-clinical validation to the clinic where we perform first-in-human trials for image guided surgery.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical, Electrical, Optical Engineering, or Applied Physics and high-quality, first author, peer-reviewed publications in the field. Experience in optics, diffuse optics theory, spectroscopy, signal processing are preferred. Strong skills in instrumentation and a solid mathematical background are required. Applicants will be responsible for developing novel wide field and endoscopic endogenous imaging for the clinic using innovative techniques such as Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging. The applicant will be responsible for investigating new methods of acquisition and processing to permit real-time imaging of endogenous contrast as well as applying the findings in pre-clinical models towards solving clinically-relevant problems. Applicants will be trained in in vivo molecular imaging techniques, biology and clinical translation as needed.

Working at the Center for Molecular Imaging places you in the center of the Longwood Medical Area of Harvard Medical School, with access to superb human and technical resources. From the training provided by the laboratory, current and previous fellows have built strong careers in the field of molecular imaging.

Although the laboratory is always seeking to expand its pool of talented researchers, we give priority consideration to self-funded fellows. We also require a two-year commitment to the laboratory.

To be considered for a position, please email an updated C.V. or NIH Biosketch, a short personal statement (1–2 paragraphs), and three references to sgioux@bidmc.harvard.edu….
