in the field of Neurobiology / Neuro-Engineering
Your main duties are research and development, utilizing novel biohybrid systems to answer neurobiological questions. You will be part of a team using state-of-the-art technology to build and employ an experimental platform that allows the reconstruction and manipulation of neural networks in vitro to investigate the mechanisms driving the spatial spread of neurodegenerative disease. Additional investigations will develop bidirectional communication systems between active 3D implants and the retina. In both systems, not only electrophysiological techniques, but also an investigation of the coupling between the cell network and newly developed electronic chip based devices, as well as genetic modification of neurons, ie. for optogenetic manipulation is envisioned. This also includes characterization of single cells and cell networks using classical molecular and electrophysiological methods. The results of your research are expected to be published in international peer reviewed journals. Interdisciplinary teamwork, as well as the supervision of Bachelor, Master, and PhD students is expected.
A higher degree in Biology or Biochemistry and a Doctorate in a related field
Extensive knowledge of current research in neurobiology
Comprehensive experience in the area of electrophysiology
The ability to identify pressing biological questions that can be addressed by the application of the Institute’s novel Micro and Nanotechnology
The ability to communicate and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team
