Postdoctoral Research Associate - Cardiac Muscle
Anticipated interview date: 20 August 2007
Anticipated start date: 01 September 2007
Job Description:
Working in Professor Clive Orchard’s laboratory in the cardiac muscle group within the Department of Physiology, you will investigate whether the distribution of protein function between the t-tubule and surface membranes of mammalian ventricular myocytes depends on local protein phosphorylation, and whether this distribution changes during the development of cardiac hypertrophy; this is important in understanding normal cardiac excitation-contraction coupling, and how it may change with disease. You will be expected to have a PhD or MD by research in a relevant life-science. Proficiency in cardiac cell isolation, patch-clamp recording and associated data analysis is required for this post. You will also know about cardiac cellular electrophysiology and excitation-contraction coupling, as well as possessing enthusiasm, motivation, a willingness to learn and the ability to work and interact with a motivated and supportive research group. This post is initially funded by the British Heart Foundation.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/personnel/ftc/
