We are seeking a PhD graduate who is keen to pursue fundamental research into the areas of Natural Language Processing, Social Network Analysis and Information Retrieval. The role will involve investigating issues related to information services in the context of putting people (citizens or customers) at the core of processes. The position is in Sydney, Australia.
You will be a member of a growing team of leading researchers in the Information Engineering Laboratory, who are actively engaged in state of the art research in search, language and social media web services. You will be helping to build innovative, effective, and leading edge tools to help people mine information from large amount of unstructured (textual) documents and social interactions in the context of citizen- or customer- centric services. Our technologies require cross-disciplinary teams and involve strong involvement with leading customers.
Specifically you will: - Perform analysis and conduct active and first-rate research in Natural Language Processing, Search and Social Media analysis.
- Develop and apply novel techniques in one or more of those fields.
- Take a central role in the research, including research direction planning.
- Prepare reports of progress against project milestones.
- Document, patent and publish inventions and results as appropriate.

Salary: $75K to $82K plus up to 15.4% Superannuation

To be successful in this position you will have: - A PhD in a relevant Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or closely related discipline.
- Proven ability to publish results in a variety of media and communicate to audiences of varying levels of expertise.
- Ability to develop software for use by others in ‘Java’, “C++’ or C’ (Java preferred).
- Strong knowledge of machine learning techniques.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
