Scientists in the Colon Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory at theMelbourne Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR) inParkville are using developmental genetic studies in zebrafish toidentify pathways involved in colon cancer. The focus of our research isto analyse the function of genes that we have shown to be indispensablefor normal intestinal development in zebrafish.
We hypothesise that the aberrant expression of these genes will perturbthe behaviour of the intestinal epithelium in adults and contribute tocolon tumour development. A number of in vivo and in vitro approachesare envisaged to explore the biological activities of the gene productsand to analyse the genetic pathways in which they participate. The scopeof the research will also take advantage of the existing capability inour laboratory to undertake conditional reverse genetic experiments inmice. This is a long-term study funded by the NHMRC, Australia.
The position would suit a Post-doctoral scientist, with up to threeyears experience, with an excellent track record in cell biology,developmental biology and/or genetics. However, Senior Research Officerswith appropriate qualifications and extensive experience in relevantscientific areas will also be considered. We are seeking to employ anenthusiastic and committed scientist with excellent organizational, oraland written communication skills and an advanced ability to initiate anddrive new areas of research in the laboratory. This is a substantialposition with the possibility of supervising staff and students in the future.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and theposition is available for a three year fixed term.
