The Department is committed to high quality teaching of Physiology and Pharmacology to undergraduate students in several of the teaching programs of Karolinska Institutet, and to an active graduate program aiming to a doctorate in Physiology and Pharmacology.

Area of responsibilities/description of the work
We are looking for postdoc fellows who will work within projects aimed at finding new biomarkers predictive for hepatotoxicity as well as with methods that generate highly differentiated hepatocytes and non parenchymal liver cells from stem cells. The projects are in collaboration with European laboratories within EU, IMI , EFPIA and Colipa funded projects.

One basis for the work will be to use novel types of 3D spheroid and bioreactors systems in which primary liver cells, hESC or hIPS cells are introduced. The in vitro systems will be challenged with different drugs, and mechanisms and early proteomic and genomic biomarkers for toxicity identified. Conditions for differentiation of stem cells into liver cells will be search for including adenovirus transfection protocols. The genetic and epigenetic variation will be considered using next generation sequencing and in vitro expression of gene variants.

Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in a relevant field. The applicant must have more than 3 years of experience in experimental research.

Previous experience of work with stem cells and in vitro systems for studying liver functions is meriting for the position.

The position as Postdoc Fellow will be fixed to two years with possibilities for prolongation with two years.

Documented experience in relevant research areas and extensive experience with in vitro model systems and molecular techniques is important
