A post-doctoral position starting on 1 January, 2011 is available for the study of the viral immunosuppressive protein BARF1. It is funded by FINOVI for one year.
We want to establish the role of BARF1 protein in Epstein-Barr virus infection. The structure of this protein has been solved in our group (Tarbouriech et al, 2006) and we could establish the very tight interaction with the human cytokine CSF1 and the structure of the complex (unpublished work). At first, production of BARF1 by different EBV infected cell lines will be studied. Secondly BARF1 will be studied ex vivo (quantification of mRNA with real time PCR, protein detection by enzyme immuno assay, western blot and/or mass spectrometry) in human body fluids from patients with EBV associated diseases and in healthy EBV infected individuals.
The position requires experience in virology at the cellular level. Required techniques are cell culture (especially lymphoblastoïd cell lines), ELISA, immunofluorescence and some experience in molecular biology (real time PCR) and recombinant protein production (in E. coli and in insect cells using baculovirus).
Our group works on the structural biology and physiopathology of Epstein-Barr virus. The group is part of the Institute of Host-Virus Interactions UVHCI, a joint laboratory between the EMBL Grenoble outstation, CNRS and the Grenoble University involving as well the Grenoble University Hospital. Working languages are French and English. Grenoble is a mid-size town with an international scientific atmosphere located in the French Alps.
