Description:

The Project
Our ERC-funded research group is studying cell biological and immunological aspects of liver cancer development. A special focus is the role of cytokines and inflammatory signalling pathways in mediating the transition from chronic inflammation to the malignant transformation of cells. In the respective project the role of a newly defined molecule that supposedly integrates inflammatory and developmental signals will be analysed in a genetic model of liver cancer.

This work includes the characterization of a newly generated mouse model (conditional gene targeting approach), primary cell culture-work, innovative biological and immunological techniques including protein biochemistry, expression analysis (protein, RNA, immunohistochemistry), FACS analysis, adoptive cell transfers, molecular biology, in vivo imaging by 2-photon-microscopy etc. Moreover results will be transferred into patient material from a big tissue bank.
