Institution:

University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Position:

A post-doctoral fellowship to study the human natural killer cell immunologic synapse

Job Description:

Postdoctoral fellowship in the quantitative imaging and cell biology of the natural killer cell immunological synapse.

A post-doctoral fellowship is available at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to study the human natural killer cell immunologic synapse.  We have focused on cytoskeletal and signaling requirements for the polarization of NK cell lytic granules to the immunological synapse to enable directed secretion and cytotoxicity.   We have relied heavily on the quantitative confocal fluorescent imaging of live and fixed cells to address our questions, but also utilize electron microscopy, and various biochemical approaches.  The work promises to be challenging, but presents an opportunity to gain an understanding of the molecular events involved in intercellular recognition and resultant function.

The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine is a highly academic environment with superb educational and career development opportunities for postdoctoral fellows (see: http://www.med.upenn.edu/postdoc/)

Salary will be commensurate with NIH post-doctoral pay scales.  Please send an application letter, statement of career goals, CV, and contact information (email and telephone No.) for 3 references via email to Jordan Orange MD/PhD at Orange@mail.med.upenn.edu

Requirements:
Applications will be entertained from candidates with pending or recently conferred PhDs with a background in any of the following disciplines: 1) cell biology, with emphasis on intracellular transport, ultrastructure or the cytoskeleton; 2) biochemistry, with an emphasis on inhibitory or activation-induced cell signaling; 3) Immunology, with an emphasis on intercellular interactions. The applicant should be highly motivated with a flexible work schedule.
