We are searching for Post Docs in Theory and Simulations of Dynamic Material Properties for the High Energy Density Physics Department at the Albuquerque facility. The salary is $83,100 per year. A benefit and relocation package is available. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team involved in developing, improving and validating material models and performing basic research in dynamic materials physics and materials science. Research will primarily include modeling of material properties, for example equation of state, constitutive relations, strength and damage to address problems of interest for the pulsed power facility. The goal is to enable predictive simulations to solve our most challenging scientific problems. The emphasis is on theoretical/computational work, the position involves frequent interactions with experimental scientists, initially in interpreting ongoing experiments and eventually suggesting novel ways of designing, simulating and predicting dynamic materials experiments. Extensive interactions with physicists, material scientists, chemists and computational scientists in multiple fields across the laboratory. Work efficiently as part of collaborative efforts. Publication of results in scientific journals is expected.

PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field of study is required. Requires experience of research in dynamic strength modeling or plasticity theory, and simulations with continuum codes (FEM or finite difference); ability to be self motivated and to work as part of a diverse team, including project members from other NNSA labs; and excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated in technical publications and reports, and in technical and project presentations. Desirables include experience in writing, analyzing and running scientific simulation codes and integrating experimental and theoretical efforts; expertise in scientific programming, C, C++, python, object oriented programming, parallel programming (MPI, openMPI, CUDA, etc); an interest and ability in participating in the HEDP Theory effort to embed modeling and simulation into the cycle of design and analysis of large-scale experiments; and experience �work with equilibrium properties/equations of state or high-pressure physics.
