Job Description:
Hello, my name is Maria Suarez-Almazor, and I am the Deputy Chair for Research in the Department of General Internal Medicine (GIM), Ambulatory Treatment, and Emergency Care at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer, Houston, Texas. We are seeking candidates for our recently created GIM Fellowship Program, which starts July 1st. Please find a short description below. This is an academic training program focused on development of skills necessary for a successful career in academic medicine. GIM Fellows are expected to spend the majority of their time to developing clinical research skills that will enhance their academic careers, and will be encouraged to pursue a master's degree (MS or MPH) in clinical research during the fellowship. A faculty mentor will be assigned and will meet with each fellow individually on a regular basis. It is expected that the fellows will dedicate 25% clinical effort to develop their clinical skills aimed at management of oncology patients, including management of comorbidities and symptoms related to the malignancy or to therapy, management of oncologic emergencies, and the medical care of cancer survivors. The fellowship is a two-year program, starting July 1st, with one fellow assigned to each program year for a total of 2 fellows.
Fellows must have completed an internal medicine residency program or foreign-based equivalent, and must meet the requirements to obtain an institutional trainee permit.
